William de Ferrières (11?-1190) |
3rd crusade † | William de Ferrières (or Ferrers) was earl of
Derby. His family stemmed from the lords of Ferrières (Normandy). "Whether the English branch of the family in the twelfth century bore, as the heralds say they did, Sable, six horse-shoes argent (or the same with the tincture reversed) , or wether they bore any arms at all, is another question." CP IV p190 (d). That would have been canting arms. |
